Learn About The Clarity Wheel

What is The Clarity Wheel?

For a video explanation, check out the introductory videos below this explanation.

This is a brief overview of The Clarity Wheel. For a deeper understanding we recommend you read the book, The Clarity Wheel: Mastering the Art of Self-awareness and Clear Communication.

The Clarity Wheel is a simple framework for delivering complete, easy-to-follow communication. We often describe it as a “mat” that someone walks on, using the idea of “walking the Wheel” to explain how a person moves from one topic to the next. This metaphor is just an introduction to the deeper mechanics of the Wheel.

Once people have walked the Wheel a few times-or seen it in action-they naturally internalize its structure. From there, they can mentally visualize the Wheel or speak through it out loud, easily covering all the key topics in any conversation.

Visually, The Clarity Wheel consists of a circle divided into eight segments in the shape of a wedge. Think of a pizza with eight slices. The segments represent various components of self-awareness and clear communication. In a way, the Clarity Wheel acts as a prism; it takes the “white light” of our human experience and refracts it into a spectrum of identifiable aspects of ourselves and our story. This spectrum consists of eight aspects:

• The Data (facts/context)

• I Think (thoughts/opinions/judgments)

• I Feel (feelings/emotions)

• I Need

• My Values

• I Sense (body sensations)

• My Shadow

• My Request

With this ‘multi-channel’ approach, the Wheel brings balance and depth to communication. It invites recognition of the multiple facets of our being. It helps bring them into balance when we may have gotten “lop-sided” through our habitual ways of relating to other people and processing our life experience.

Video Introduction to The Clarity Wheel

The videos below are an introduction to The Clarity Wheel in its most basic form, a mat on the ground. While many people benefit from literally “walking the mat”, the Wheel can also be “walked” using a diagram or from visiting each wedge in one’s mind. These videos will give you a general understanding of what the Clarity Wheel is and a simple definition of the wedges themselves.
